Mindfulness in NGOs/Development

This is a research post only where I am keeping a record of any work being done on mindfulness in NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and international development.

Given that I work in this sector, I would be interested in hearing about anything that is being done on this so please post a comment if you know of anything. I will continue to update this and blog as I find things.
  • http://mindfulnext.org/ Alessandra Pigni delivers mindfulness courses for humanitarian professionals (specifically on 'burn out'). Mindfulness for NGOs is a social enterprise founded by Alessandra Pigni in partnership with The Oxford Mindfulness Centre, with the aim to bring the art and science of mindfulness-based stress reduction and burnout prevention training to humanitarian organisations and aid workers back home and in the field.
One of the things which I feel to be true, said by the great Thict Naht Hahn, is that in order for us to help others, to handle problems of war, poverty and suffering in the world, we have to address the suffering inside of ourselves - the fear, anxiety inside of ourselves. We cannot help others if we haven't dealt with this. We need compassion to arise in ourselves. Peace, understanding begins with yourself.
