In preparation for my forthcoming trip to Thailand, I found this article about what Buddhist monks have had to learn about development (the importance of understanding how development challenges are related to the structure of society and the economy) and what NGOs have learnt from the monks (namely, the importance of development not just being considered in terms of economic growth but in the happiness and peace of mind).
It is an interesting read for anyone also interested in the link between mindfulness and international development.

Our minds matter most because this is where it all starts: our perspective, thinking, judgements, reactions, self worth, happiness. It's about being more aware, grounded in the present moment, with more insight and balance. And this effects our connection to others and to the environment. Yet how much attention do we give our minds? This blog gives an intro to mindfulness and a ton of resources on how it can help individual, social and environmental change.
